Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer with strong hands-on experience in core electrical systems for Oil & Gas, EPC, industrial, energy and brownfield projects.
The ideal candidate should have solid expertise in electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, testing, troubleshooting, energization, and system handover. Basic working knowledge and some practical exposure to Instrumentation & Control systems is required, but the primary focus of the role will be on core electrical engineering and commissioning.
Responsibilities
• Plan and execute electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in accordance with project procedures, specifications, and approved drawings.
• Review electrical engineering documents, single-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, equipment datasheets, and commissioning procedures.
• Perform and supervise testing of electrical equipment and systems, including:
- Transformers
- LV/MV switchgear
- MCCs
- Motor control systems
- Motors
- Generators
- UPS and battery systems
- Distribution boards and panels
- Protection and control systems
• Carry out electrical testing such as:
- Insulation Resistance (IR) / Megger testing
- Continuity testing
- Hi-Pot testing
- Earth resistance testing
- Contact resistance testing
- Cable testing
- Relay/protection testing
- Transformer testing
• Coordinate electrical equipment energization and ensure all pre-energization checks are completed safely.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems, identify faults, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Review and close pre-commissioning and commissioning punch-list items.
• Coordinate with construction, instrumentation, mechanical, process, and operations teams during commissioning activities.
• Support loop checks, functional checks, and interface testing involving electrical and instrumentation systems.
• Provide support for basic Instrumentation & Control commissioning activities where required.
• Review test reports, commissioning records, check sheets, and system handover documentation.
• Ensure all commissioning activities are performed in accordance with HSE requirements, approved procedures, project specifications, and applicable standards.
• Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, client representatives, and other disciplines during commissioning.
• Participate in system turnover, final inspection, and handover activities.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5–10 years of relevant experience in electrical pre-commissioning and commissioning.
• Strong experience in core electrical systems and equipment within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Power, EPC, or Industrial projects.
• Hands-on experience in electrical testing, troubleshooting, energization, and commissioning.
• Experience with LV/MV electrical systems, switchgear, MCCs, transformers, motors, protection systems, UPS, and associated equipment.
• Good understanding of electrical drawings, SLDs, schematics, cable schedules, and testing procedures.
• Some experience/exposure to Instrumentation & Control systems is required, including basic understanding of loop checks, instrument interfaces, and functional testing.
• Instrumentation experience does not need to be the candidate's primary specialization; strong core electrical commissioning experience is the main requirement.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary commissioning teams.
• Good knowledge of electrical safety requirements and permit-to-work systems.
Required Skills
• Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, NFPA and relevant international electrical standards.
• Experience with electrical testing and commissioning tools and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings.
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently and under project commissioning schedules.
• Saudi Aramco / major Oil & Gas project experience will be an advantage.
Additional Notes
- Candidates should have with a strong Electrical Pre-Commissioning & Commissioning experience and limited-to-moderate Instrumentation exposure.
- The role is primarily focused on Core Electrical systems.
